Discharge lines and North Jersey winters
The pump itself is only half of the system. Where the water goes matters just as much. A discharge line that dumps next to the foundation sends water right back into the pit. A line that runs into a buried pipe with no slope freezes in January. And a discharge tied into the sanitary sewer is against code in most towns and is one reason main lines back up during storms.
We route discharge lines away from the house with a proper drop, add a freeze relief where the line exits, and make sure the check valve is close to the pump so the column of water above it does not slam back into the pit.
